Property Maintenance

After a long Winter, Spring is finally here! That means it is time for some "Spring Cleaning" around your property.

Whether you are planning on selling your home in the near term or not, keeping you home's landscaping maintained nicely is very beneficial. Not only is it nice to see a well kept property, it helps with plant growth/health, as well as reduces the maintenance on you home.

For example, if you have a lot of trees on your property that drop leaves, pine needles, branches, etc. and you don't maintain the clean up, this debris will accumulate on your roof, gutters, around your home foundation, deck, etc. and can lead to rot and water issues to your home if it is not cleared regularly. Additionally, this debris can adversely affect the lawn, garden, driveway, walkways, etc. by suppressing grass and plant growth as well as staining your driveway and walkways over time.

If you can stay on top of this maintenance, it can reduce future problems. So when the time comes where you do want to sell your home, your wont have a huge project of getting your home ready for the market because you have been maintaining your property nicely all along. It will also help maximize your asking price when you decide to list your home for sale. Buyers usually dont want to deal with deferred maintance issues when purchasing a home.

There are two ways to stay on top of your property maintenance: 1) You can hire a landscaping company to come by regularly to cut the lawns, weed, maintain leaves/debris and manage the plantings if you have the resources to do so. or 2) You can allocate 2-5 hours per weekend to Do- It-Yourself. If you are a doer and like getting your hands dirty, you can really get into this and enjoy it. I have been doing my own property maintenance for over 20 years every weekend and I find it cathartic and rewarding, but that's just me.

Maintaining your property will give you peace of mind, enjoyment and can help prevent future issues to your home and property. If you can stay on top of it, it will pay off in the long run.
